How long does an inspection take?
How long will your RV inspection take? Well, it depends! A few things factor into the time required:
Type of inspection: A basic safety inspection might only take 2-3 hours. But a full pre-purchase inspection, especially on a large Class A motorhome with all the bells and whistles, could take 8-10 hours.
The RV itself: A small camper van will naturally take less time than a massive motorhome with multiple slide-outs.
Any issues we find: If we uncover problems that need further investigation, it’ll add a bit of time.
Rest assured, we never rush our inspections. We’re committed to taking the time necessary to provide you with a thorough and accurate assessment of your RV’s condition. Your safety and peace of mind are our top priorities.
Do I have to have an inspection to buy an RV?
Why an RV Inspection is Essential (Even Though It’s Not Required):
Peace of Mind: Buying an RV is a significant investment, often the second-largest purchase after a house. An inspection provides peace of mind, knowing a qualified professional has assessed the RV’s condition. This can alleviate anxiety and uncertainty about potential hidden problems.
Uncovering Hidden Problems: RVs are complex machines with numerous systems. Problems can be easily masked or overlooked, especially by someone unfamiliar with RVs. An inspector has the knowledge and tools to identify hidden issues, from minor leaks to major structural damage. These problems can be costly to repair if discovered after the purchase.
Negotiating Power: The inspection report becomes a powerful tool for negotiation. If the inspection reveals issues, you can use the report to negotiate a lower price or request the seller to make repairs before the sale is finalized. This can save you significant money.
Avoiding Costly Surprises: Imagine buying an RV and then discovering a major problem, like a faulty roof or a malfunctioning appliance, shortly after purchase.
These surprises can be expensive and frustrating. An inspection helps you avoid these pitfalls by identifying potential issues upfront.
Safety Concerns: Some RV problems, such as gas leaks or electrical issues, can pose safety hazards. An inspection can identify these safety concerns, protecting you and your family.
Understanding the RV’s Condition: Even if no major problems are found, the inspection provides a comprehensive overview of the RV’s condition. This helps you understand how everything works, what maintenance might be needed, and what potential future repairs could be.
Informed Decision-Making: Ultimately, the inspection empowers you to make an informed decision. You’ll have a clear picture of the RV’s condition, allowing you to weigh the pros and cons before making a purchase. This is especially important with used RVs, where the history and condition can be uncertain.
Warranty Considerations: For new RVs, an inspection can document the initial condition, which can be helpful for warranty claims later on. For used RVs, it can help you understand what you’re buying “as-is” and what might be covered by any remaining warranties.
In short, while not legally required, an RV inspection is a smart investment that can protect you from costly surprises, give you negotiating power, and provide peace of mind. It’s a small price to pay for the knowledge and confidence it provides.

When should I schedule my inspection?
It’s great that you’re thinking ahead about scheduling your RV inspection! Here’s a breakdown of when to schedule it, depending on whether you’re buying new or used:
New RV: Before Taking Delivery: Ideally, you should schedule the inspection before you take delivery of the new RV from the dealership. This allows you to identify any issues that need to be addressed by the dealer before you finalize the purchase.
Within Warranty Period: If you’ve already taken delivery, schedule the inspection as soon as possible, and definitely within the manufacturer’s warranty period. This helps ensure any factory defects or issues are documented and can be repaired under warranty.
Used RV:
Before Finalizing the Purchase: Schedule the inspection before you sign any paperwork or make a final payment on a used RV. This gives you the opportunity to negotiate repairs or a lower price based on the inspection findings.
ASAP After Initial Viewing: If you’re seriously considering a used RV, schedule the inspection soon after your initial viewing, especially if it’s a popular model or in high demand. This prevents someone else from buying it before you have a chance to get it inspected.
How do I schedule an inspection?
You can schedule an inspection by calling us or by filling out the contact form on our website. We recommend scheduling at least a few days in advance.
What does a Premier Inspection include?
Our comprehensive inspection covers hundreds of checkpoints across all major RV systems, including:
- Roof: Condition of the membrane, seals, vents, and AC units.
- Exterior: Sidewalls, windows, doors, awnings, and compartments.
Interior: Appliances, plumbing fixtures, cabinets, flooring, and furniture. - Electrical System: AC/DC power, outlets, wiring, generator, and inverter.
- Plumbing System: Freshwater, gray water, black water tanks, water heater, pump, and fixtures.
- Propane System: Tanks, lines, regulator, and appliances.
- Chassis and Running Gear: Frame, suspension, brakes, tires, and leveling system (if applicable).

Do you test drive the RV?
For insurance reasons, we do not test drive the RV. We recommend having the seller demonstrate the RV’s drivability before the inspection.
What if the inspection reveals problems?
If we find any issues, we will document them in the report and discuss them with you. You can then use this information to negotiate repairs with the seller or decide whether to proceed with the purchase.
